5.1 The Windows 9x File Structure and File Management System
5.1.7 Selecting, copying, and moving files
It is useful to understand how to select a file individually or as part of a group. Copying and pasting files within directories/folders to make a duplicate copy is also detailed.

To select a file, right-click on it, and then select Copy from the popup menu. Go to the location where it is to be pasted. Right-click on a blank area of the Explorer right window pane, and then choose Paste. A duplicate copy of that file is now available.

To select several files (even discontiguous ones), hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on the file names. The files will be highlighted. To unselect a file, continue holding the Ctrl key and click on the file to be de-selected.

To highlight all files click on Edit from the menu bar, then click on Select All. To unselect all the files, press the Esc key on the keyboard.

Once these files are highlighted they can be moved, copied, deleted, or all opened simultaneously.
