12.7 Windows NT4/2000 Troubleshooting Problems
12.7.3 Windows NT Startup Modes
Startup Mode options are available in Windows NT, just as in Windows 9x. However, the startup process for Windows NT is a little different from that of Windows 9x. The Windows NT Startup depends on the boot loader file (BOOT.INI). The NTLDR program (pronounced NT Loader) uses this file to generate a "Boot Loader Menu" that is displayed on the screen to select which operating system to use. From this menu, choose to Start the system normally, in VGA mode, or Last Known Good Hardware Configuration Mode. The VGA mode and Last Known Good Hardware Configuration Mode will be explained in the next section, "Windows 2000 Startup Modes" because these Startup modes are included with Windows 2000 as well.
