There are a few instances where invalid
directory errors may appear. These occur while attempting to navigate
through the file system in DOS. For example, a hard drive contains two
partitions and the first partition has been formatted but the second
partition has not. Attempting to access this second partition drive
letter will result in an "invalid directory error". This
error will also appear when trying to access a directory that has been
deleted or damaged and therefore can no longer be accessed. If the
system has been backed up, recopy the directory to the hard drive and
access it again.
