12.11.3 Incorrect protocols or protocol properties
In order for the system to successfully log on to the network, the protocols must be set correctly. If they are not, then the user will not be able to see any of the other computers on the network or be able to access any of the network resources. First find out what type of protocol the network is using, whether it is TCP/IP or IPX/SPX or another protocol. Then access the properties page of the network setting and determine what protocol is actually installed and decide if that is in fact the correct one. Check the protocol properties to see if they are set properly. For example, the correct protocol may be installed but the IP address settings may be wrong. These both need to be correct in order to access the network.
