Overview
This chapter will discuss the basics of Information Technology (IT) as they relate to the computer technician. Topics include the different computer types used today, software applications, and a brief overview of the Internet. The student will identify the basic features of the Windows Operating System and the elements of the Windows Desktop.

Additionally, the student will learn several of the vocabulary words that are important to the technician. The student will also examine the methods used in number conversions, including binary to decimal, and decimal to binary. An explanation of analog and digital is included as is an introduction to algorithms.

The first priority in working with computers is safety. This chapter will detail safety procedures that pertain to the labs used throughout this course and in the workplace.
