OUR HEROES
I respect Toriyama Akira. He is a comic strip writer. He wrote Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball is very interesting. It has been very popular. In the story the character's names are very interesting. Like 'D.R. Brief ', 'Freezer', 'Gohan' ....and so on.('Gohan' means rice in Japanese).
The main character is Son Goku named after a Chinese monkey from the legend Saiyuki. He is not an earthling. He is an alien also known as a Sai-Ya person. (Sai-ya is vegetable spelt backwards in Japanese- yasai). Sai-ya people are born to battle but when he was born, Son Goku's fighting ability was only Z, so he was blown down to earth in the mini circle universe ship. It had only one seat. When Sai-ya people see the moon they become very very big gorillas. So did Goku, but his tail got cut off in the valley when he fell to earth and he became a good person. But he likes battle. Goku beat a lot of evil aliens. He gave a lot of people impressions and pleasure. So I look up to Toriyama Akira most of all people.

I respect many many people. But I can't decide who is the best hero. For example, friends or parents, teachers or celebrities and so on. I respect parents because they bring up children well. I respect my music teacher because she can play very difficult songs on the piano which I can't play at all. She is a respectable person. I respect my friends because they tell me when I'm doing something wrong. When I do something bad, I think all people who tell me about it are like heroes.

My hero is Hideki Matsui. Matsui is a Japanese professional baseball player. His nickname is 'Godzilla'. He belongs to Giant's which is one of the most popular Japanese professional baseball teams. He is an active forth batter in the Giant's team. He is a very great player, because he always hits a home run in every game. I like Giant's so my hero is Hideki Matsui.

My hero is ANPAN-MAN. Have you heard of ANPAN-MAN ? He is very kind to poor people and he is a TV character. He is made of bread and was made by Uncle Jamu . If he gives people a piece of his face they feel better ! And they become happy ! I want to be like him too. But I can't give people a piece of my face. So I'll become a nurse and help people.

My hero is Domoto Tsuyoshi. He is a Japanese idol. When I see him smile and hear his songs, I become very very happy. And he puts me in a good mood. His smile and songs make many other people happy as well as me. He is loved by many people. He has helped me but I can't do anything for him in return. So I want to become someone just like him. So I can make many people happy too.
I love him very much !!

In my life, I've met so many people. Some people are really lively and funny while others seem really serious. Some people make me happy and others make me sad and mad.
I can't say who is the best person I look up to . I respect all people who concern or relate to me or who have impressed me in many ways and always inspire me a lot. They make my life wonderful and meaningful. I can't thank enough the people who I love such as my family, friends, teachers and neighbors.
I believe tolerance and generosity are worthy of respect. We should remember the lyrics of 'Imagine' by John Lennon. Let's make our world better and happy !

The Person I Respect
The people I respect are my family, my father, mother, grandmother, sister , aunt , uncle and so on. But I particularly respect my mother first. I'll introduce her. My mother works for a bank, so except for Saturdays and Sundays, everyday takes her out to work. She is always busy, but she does ok. I think she is great. I want to be an adult like my mother.

My heroes are GLAY. They are Japanese musicians. I love their songs, because when I hear their songs I can get courage and hope. And I'm also happy for GLAY. They have a lot of songs. I like 'Ikigai' the best of their songs.
Here are the lyrics to 'Ikigai' :

My hero is Doraemon. He is a cartoon character. He is a cat type robot, but he hasn't any ears. He came from the 22nd century and he lives in Nobita's house. Nobita is a boy but he is a cry baby and weak. When he has trouble, Doraemon will help him. Doraemon takes out many useful tools from his pocket.(such as an anywhere door and a heli- flying machine). His pocket is infinite. So he is a hero for Nobita too.

My heroine is Naoko Takahashi. She is from Gifu City. She is a marathon runner. She runs very fast, and she got first prize in the Sydney Olympics. I like her very much because she gave us assurance and hope. I like her smile, her smile is very pretty. Everyone was encouraged by her smile. She is called 'Q-chan'. She's very interesting.

(translation)
"If we have confidence, we will surely be strong, I believe in myself. And if you want, you can believe yourself too "
So I think he is great.

By Ayumi Nagai (note from ed: this poem loses a lot in the translation )
