Hi
everybody,
We want to
tell you about our days at school, i.e. Goethegymnasium Hildesheim, which are
not really whole days.
We start at
7.55 and are finished at 1.10 p.m. Only once a week we must stay on until 2.50
pm., because then we've got a period, where we speak about organizing special
things like e.g. this e-mail project, or going to the theatre together or some
field-trip or other.
One period
has 45 minutes, then there is a 5-minute-break. After every second period there
is a longer break of 15 minutes where we must leave the classroom and go out
into the school yard (grrr!).
After the
6th period there' s lunch break. We have lunch at Mensa (a sort of cafetaria) ,
which is in the basement. Lunch at school is something rather unusual at German
schools. But since we have lessons in the afternoon, we do have school dinner.
We've
lessons in 13 different subjects, the most important of which are German,
French, English, Maths. Then there are the science subjects like Biology,
Chemistry and Physics. Also there are the social studies subjects of History
and Civics. Finally there is Art, P.E. and Religious Education.
It's hard
on us, school, we've got 31 lessons per week, we are supposed to write 24 big
classroom tests in a year and some 36 smaller tests. That's a lot , isn't it!!
Not to speak of homework, which is a lot every day because usually we've
lessons mainly in the mornings.
Of course,
school is not only work. In the breaks we have a lot of fun. We meet friends
from other forms in those booths we have, where you can sit and talk and eat
and listen to music.
Another
point that's typical of our school day is that we are eager to find out if some
teachers are sick and miss classes! So we go and look at the notice board for
it.
If you want
to learn anything special, write to us individually. Here are our e-mail
addresses. Also have a look at our homepage ( www.goethegym.de
) , which contains lots of things we do with pictures and all.

What would
be interesting for us is, do you have something like students’ government, i.e.
elected representatives of the students taking care of students’ interests in
school?
