HI EVERYONE ,,

 

     Today ,we’re going to tell you about some of the French well-known feasts and celebrations that we’ve chosen.

                                                                   

 

First of all , let’s write about All Saints’ Day.

In France All Saints’ Day is the celebration of the dead and is celebrated every year on November 1st.On that occasion the persons who   lost a relative or a friend usually go and collect themselves in cemeteries or in churches. This is  also a  very important day for people can gather in families and have a big dinner.

Armistice day is celebrated on November 11th .In 1918 French soldiers won the First World War that’s why today it’s a holiday when people usually march in the streets , go to mass and cemetaries to remember the soldiers who died during that war .Indeed eighty –two years ago  the armistice was signed between Germany and France,,the USA ,the United Kingdom in Rethondes.

« Christmas is coming ….. » . Christmas day is a holiday which is celebrated on December 25th.First people  usually decorate  a Christmas tree ,then after having a big feast with their families on Christmas Eve , they put some presents  under the tree.Then   children and their parents open their present as soon as they get up. A legend says that the man who brings presents to every child is Father Christmas ( ?).People celebrate this festival for the birth of Jesus Christ.

On December 31st at midnight billions of people around the world celebrate New Year’s Eve.

We usually celebrate this   with friends or families.This year ,it will be the NewMillenium.Last year , there were big fireworks on the Eiffel Tower.Also on New Year’s Day the French president  usually tells his best wishes on TV.

We always celebrate Twelfth Night the first Sunday of the year.This a day when we

Celebrate the Three Wise Men’s gift to Jesus and eat the delicious Twelfth Night Cake

in which we usually hide a charm.The one who finds it is the King.

Candlemas is a Christian feast which is celebrated on February 2nd (the 40th day after Christmas)to commemorate the presentation of the Christ in the temple and the purification of the Virgin Mary.People often light candles in churches and families prepare

« crepes « (=pancakes) at home.

Valentine’s Day is a festival for people in love and is celebrated on February 14th during the holiday.On that day boys  or girls can send cards , chocolates ,  ,presents or fowers to the persons they love.

April Fool’s day is a festival which celebrates the first day of April.On that day people usually tell or play a lot of jokes and after they always say : »April –Fool ».They also stick paper fish on people’s back.Everyone is really crazy on April Fool’s Day.

Easter is a Christian festival celebrated on a Sunday in April.On that day people usually go to church and the others hide some eggs and chocolate rabbits in the garden so that the children find them.Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

On May  8th 1945  France and the USA won the Second World War  against Germany.On that occasion , people celebrate the victory and march in the streets

The Saint Gal is the  typical festival in our town –Langeac- which lasts three days :On Satuirday , Sunday and Monday on July  …. There is a funfair where there are all sorts of  merry –go-rounds and a carnival.On Saturday , a famous singer often comes to Langeac (such as Herbert Leonard or Dave…..).Indeed during those three days ,people really enjoy themselves and drink or dance in the evening.

      The 14th of July is a national holiday and festival  which celebrates the French Revolution in 1789.Indeed on July 14th the Bastille , a fortress built in Paris ,was beseiged by the people .Today we can  watch the fireworks in the evening.And it is also Saint Camille on July 14th (written by Camille ,Delphine and Lydie)
